Welcome

Polo Ortí creates music that, in many cases, defies easy classification into a specific genre. Undoubtedly, the personal and unique character Ortí imparts to many of his compositions has earned him numerous accolades from prominent jazz musicians such as Gary Burton, Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, Bill Evans, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, and others. Teaming up with these highly skilled musicians with a solid musical education, Polo Ortí presents a repertoire of his own compositions in various formats (Solo, Trio, Quartet, or Group). He performs with remarkable solidity, conveying above all his personal vision of music.

The realization of all this is just around the corner! We will keep you informed promptly.

Polo Ortí presents WOK in Jazz & Nature Photography International Festival in MUNA museum

Polo Ortí presents this proposal with a new trio format called WOK (Wheatley – Ortí – Kéry).

Just a few months ago, Polo Ortí returned to reside in Tenerife after eleven years in Valencia as an associate professor at Berklee School of Music. He has performed various concerts with different line-ups on the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. The reception from the audience has been so positive that tickets have even sold out.

In some of these performances, Ortí has received two awards recognizing his artistic career from the International Jazzday 2023 in Las Palmas de GC and the City Council of Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife).

With WOK, Polo Ortí introduces two international musicians, very young but with a extensive musical career. The concert features Ortí's original compositions and some jazz standards, reimagined with the freshness, risk, and virtuosity of these talented musicians. Additionally, the repertoire will also include creations by Samuel Kéry (bassist) and Joshua Wheatley (drummer).

Polo Ortí & Javier Vercher

Polo Ortí is primarily recognized for his jazz prowess. However, many of the compositions he has crafted throughout his extensive career could not and should not be confined to the jazz genre. In fact, they transcend any specific musical style, as Polo Ortí has carved out his own musical identity—a product of a legacy formed in the mid-20th century and enriched by the influences of the present century.

On the other hand, Javier Vercher is a true jazz enthusiast, whose approach encompasses both the avant-garde and the traditional. His sonic landscapes unfold gradually, occasionally evoking a tangible sense of the spiritual.

Polo and Javier, on piano and saxophone respectively, will blend their talents to deliver music infused with distinct personality and their unique imprint. Through an intimate and evocative concert, the musicians will explore a repertoire featuring their original compositions and reinterpretations of well-known jazz standards.

The connection and camaraderie between these two musicians on stage have been evident in several concerts across Spain. Now, for the first time in the Canary Islands, we will have the opportunity to experience the enchantment created by these two exceptional musicians.

Clinics: Composition of Modern Instrumental Music

Polo Ortí has created a series of clinics for the University of Santiago in Quito, Ecuador, titled "Composition of Modern Instrumental Music," totaling seven clinics. As of now, five clinics have taken place during the 20/21 Academic Year. Polo Ortí delves into the realms of harmony and melody to craft various musical forms. The seminars comprise a theoretical segment, an applied theory section, and practical exercises for students.

(Upcoming Clinics: April 9 and April 23)

OMN, new musical project

OMN presents an auditory and visual journey featuring pianist Polo Ortí from Tenerife, Uruguayan violinist Federico Nathan, and Madrid-based percussionist Sergio Martínez.

These three generations of composers and performers, each with a solid background and recognized artistic career, share a common thread linked to the Berklee College of Music in Valencia, where they contribute to their teaching roles.

It is within this environment that the concept of illuminating a sonic proposition is conceived, bringing together their three distinct musical perspectives: jazz, flamenco, and popular-contemporary music, all interpreted through the same lens. Through research, fusion, and the exploration of new avenues of artistic expression, Ortí, Martínez, and Nathan—collectively known as OMN—create borderless music, showcasing its most versatile and uninhibited aspects. In essence, it is a daring, compelling, and profoundly imaginative proposal.

"This is a historic moment in which humanity is undergoing a major change. We are direct witnesses to a planet boiling and stirring to cleanse all impurities. It is up to us to make the change to a better world, and for that, we must elevate our consciousness, enveloping our beloved Earth in a large halo of love."

"Vivimos un momento histórico en el que la humanidad está experimentando un cambio trascendental. Somos testigos directos de un planeta que hierve y se agita para limpiar todas sus impurezas. Depende de nosotros que el cambio sea hacia un mundo mejor y, para ello, debemos elevar nuestra consciencia, cubriendo nuestra querida Tierra con un gran halo de amor."

The acronym WOK, which introduces this musical trio, refers to the surnames of its members: Wheatley, Ortí, and Kéry. Canarian pianist and composer, Polo Ortí, joins forces with two international talents: Hungarian bassist Samuel Kéry and English drummer Joshua Wheatley. Despite their youth, both possess extensive experience in music. The ensemble will perform a selection of Ortí's original compositions, as well as some pieces by Wheatley and various jazz classics. This concert is the result of the combination of Ortí's repertoire with Wheatley's musical ingenuity and Kéry's accompaniment.
